Linda Bourgeois, a leading broker associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Southeast Metro office in Greenwood Village, has pledged a portion of her commission income in 2011 to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Bourgeois’ son, Josh, was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2006 at age 24, inspiring her to get involved with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. A few months into her son’s treatment, she took a quilting class led by instructor Gail Scheihing, who told Bourgeois that a student’s recently-completed quilt had appraised for several thousand dollars. Bourgeois decided to make a quilt and raffle it to benefit the blood cancer society.

“My son’s cancer shaped my life and gave me purpose and direction,” said Bourgeois. “Donating a portion of my commission income will honor my son’s fight with Leukemia, help save lives through The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s research, and provide hope to those stricken with blood cancer and their families.

“I will be displaying the quilt at venues such as hospitals and cancer centers and will raffle it to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,” said Bourgeois. “I believe the quilt will help people cope while offering them hope by encouraging them to channel their emotions into a creative process such as quilting.”

Bourgeois plans to speak to various groups throughout the year, including quilting groups, in support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and to raise awareness about blood cancers. Her website at shares her story, her son’s progress, and photos of the quilt.
